Ranger College Women’s Basketball Wins Thriller, Edges McCook 50–48

HOBBS, New Mexico — December 12, 2025 — The Ranger College women's basketball team earned a hard-fought 50–48 victory over McCook Community College on Friday evening at a neutral-site matchup in Hobbs, New Mexico. The win improves the Rangers to 4–7 overall, continuing a stretch of gritty, defensive-minded performances.

Johnson Leads Late Push

Imani Johnson delivered a standout performance, leading all scorers with 21 points on an efficient 10-of-16 shooting. Johnson's scoring punch proved crucial in a tightly contested game that featured five lead changes and was decided in the final minute.

Key Contributions Across the Lineup

Akyla Fields added 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals, providing steady leadership on both ends of the floor. Kayleigh Murphy controlled the paint with a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with 9 points and 2 blocks, helping Ranger win the rebounding battle 34–32.

Off the bench, Shamariah Gibbs chipped in 4 rebounds and strong defensive minutes, while Ranger's bench outscored McCook 25–5, giving the Rangers a key advantage in depth.

Defense Seals the Win

Ranger held McCook to just 28.3% shooting from the field and forced 12 turnovers, limiting the Indians' opportunities down the stretch. After trailing 13–11 at the end of the first quarter, the Rangers responded with a strong second quarter and maintained composure in the final moments to secure the two-point win.
