Lady Rangers set school marks at Dan Veach Invite

Not even a tornado watch could keep the Ranger College women's track team from writing themselves into the history books on March 27 at the Dan Veach Invitational in Arkansas.

Ranger established two new school records at the meet before it was cut short due to a tornado watch.

Cameryn Boykin etched her name into the RC history books in her first-ever college meet. The freshman ran a time of 1 minute. 3.02 seconds in the 400-meter dash and eclipsed the school's previous mark in the race by more than a full second. Martha Garcia held the previous record, running the race in a time of 1:04.42 in April 2015.

Kaylyn De La Rosa added her name to college annals while highlighted a dominating effort by the RC women in the 800-meter run. De La Rosa won the race with a time of 2:26.12 – a mark that easily eclipsed the college's previous mark of 2:30.25 set by former All-American Jessica Thomas-Billot in April 2019.

Alauna Stackhouse, Melohdee Marroquin and Alexa Reyes added to the Lady Rangers' dominance in the 800 by finishing third, fourth and sixth, respectively.

In the 1,500-meter run, Reyes, Natali Mireles and Fae Gonzalez shined brightly. Reyes finished fourth in the race, while Mireles and Gonzalez placed sixth and seventh, respectively.

RC head coach Kathy Graham said she was also pleased with the women's 4x200-meter relay team. The squad is well on its way to qualifying for the national meet, she said.
