Modingwane Wins, Ranger Men's Cross-Country Places Third at Mustang Derby
WICHITA FALLS, Texas — September 11, 2025 — The Ranger College men's cross-country team placed 3rd overall at the Mustang Derby Collegiate, led by a first-place finish from freshman standout Amantle Modingwane.
Individual Champion
Modingwane claimed the men's 6K title with a time of 17:43.7, outkicking the field to secure his first collegiate victory.
Supporting the Effort
Sophomore Khanya Yali finished 10th overall in 19:39.1, while Sammy Herrera (18th, 20:02.6), Zachery Roome (26th, 20:16.3), and Joseph Simon (30th, 20:19.4) rounded out the top five for the Rangers. The team totaled 72 points with a combined time of 1:38:01, finishing behind UT-Dallas (41 points) and Cameron (46 points).
Strong Season Start
With Modingwane's second school-record performance of the season and a balanced supporting cast, the Rangers have established themselves as one of the strongest junior college programs in the region.
Coach's Thoughts
"We've had a strong week of training, and the improvement is showing," said Coach James Majenge. "This group is right where we need to be at this point in the season. Amantle continues to lead from the front, and his example is helping the rest of the team raise their level."
